ACTION #8 LIVING IN ALIGNMENT

ARE YOU KICKING GOALS and STILL FEEL THAT GAPING HOLE OF UNFULFILLMENT?

OR, SIMPLY HAVE NO IDEA WHY YOU FEEL UNFULFILLED? NUMB?

ASK YOURSELF: HOW CAN I LIVE IN ALIGNMENT WITH HOW I WANT TO FEEL?

LIVING IN ALIGNMENT WITH HOW WE WANT TO FEEL

When we embody what we value most and take action to support how we want to feel we live in alignment with our truth.  We are at peace. We feel whole.

Living in alignment means we take action in the present moment to support our most desired values and feelings; and adapt our actions as these change.  

The problem is, most of us don't live in alignment with our desired values & feelings.  Instead, we tend to take action based on where we think we want to be in the future.  At times even suffering through our action, ignoring our intuition (who speaks to us through our feelings) as we wait for the pay off we expect to receive on reaching our desired destination.  

Once I achieve X then I will feel Y.  But it’s not really about X (the goal, the outcome or the destination), what we really want is Y.  Y is the way we think we are going to feel when we finally achieve X.

This means we are not living in alignment with our truth today. We bet our happiness & fulfillment on something that is not guaranteed. We chase our shiny pennies, forgetting that what we really want is to feel a particular way now.

It is the journey that matters, not the destination.

SO, HOW DO I WANT TO FEEL?

When it comes to your goals/dreams ask yourself: Why do I want to achieve, have or be that?  And then ask: How can I feel that now?  And then you take whatever action you can in the present moment, inspired action, that will best leave you feeling that way now.   

Your desired feelings + values could be anything at all.  What feelings or values do you desire most?

We might want to feel:

RADIANT, LIGHT, FREE, POWERFUL, JOYOUS, PLEASURE, BEAUTIFUL, LOVING, NUTRITIOUS, BRIGHT, SEXY, CONFIDENT, INSPIRED, EXCITED, PROUD, LOYAL, CARING, PEACEFUL, AUTHENTIC, FLOW, SPIRITUAL, FEMININE, MASCULINE, BRAVE, COURAGEOUS, DESERVING, ENERGETIC, OUTGOING, HAPPINESS, LAUGHTER….

The list goes on.

To really understand what it is you want, you need to turn to your intuition.  If you haven’t read Action #6 of the Create a Life that is Beautiful journey, which is all about how to connect with your intuition, now is the time!

OUR WEEKLY CHALLENGE TO CREATE A LIFE THAT IS BEAUTIFUL

STEP 1:

Sit in a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed, making sure you are listening for your intuition's guidance with your answers. 

I invite you to consider each of the following areas, asking yourself how you want to feel + what you value most in each category.  Write down the first 1-3 words that come to mind for each area. 

The work you do >> Your health + self-care >> Your relationships >> Your physical space >> Your possessions >> How you spend your free time

The words you come up with are your current Desired Feelings & Values.  The reason I get you to think about values as well as feelings, is that sometimes there will be something you deeply value which isn't necessarily something you feel, and you know it is super important to you at this time.  For me they are words like Sustainable and Functional.

STEP 2:

Your daily challenge for the next 7 days is to take action embody these Desired Feelings & Values across each of the areas above. 

For example, if your Desired Feelings & Values for your relationships were: Uplifting, Supportive & Loving then when it comes to your relationships you will look to take action so that you are spending time or connecting with people in your life who leave you feeling uplifted, supported and loving. 

If you have the same values popping up across multiple areas you might choose to have some key guiding values.  For instance, I take action which makes me feel FREE, MOTIVATED, RADIANT, LIGHT + ABUNDANT. 

You can also break down each section further.  For example, I like to identify different values for the food I eat (delicious, nutritious and sustainable) and the exercise I do (pleasure, freedom and flow). When I take action I ask myself given my current circumstances what can I do today when it comes to exercise that will bring me pleasure, freedom and flow. 

Should you need some inspiration, do a Google search of “core personal values” or “core desired feelings” and see if any of the values listed resonate with you.  Also, Danielle La Porte has a wonderful list of Core Desired Feelings which you can access here

If you are someone who has a clear set of goals or knows what your big vision or dream is, it can also be helpful to write a list of your current goals/dreams and ask yourself why you want to achieve them. This is helpful to identify either current values or where your goals are not in alignment.


LIFE IN ALIGNMENT

Understanding what your Desired Feelings & Values are and taking the action which embodies those most in the present moment will leave you feeling fulfilled because you are living in alignment with your truth.  

This also makes decisions a whole lot easier.   Now all you need to do is simply refer to your list of Desired Feelings & Values and ask yourself whether taking a particular action is going to best embody those values.

For instance, when it comes to my possessions, I value that they are functional, sustainable and bring me pleasure.  This means when I buy something I make sure that it meets all 3 of these values otherwise it's a no.  I cannot even tell you how much this has helped with shopping!! 

When you take action that is aligned with your Desired Feelings & Values you act with intention.  This is a peaceful way to live your life, avoiding the conflict we force upon ourselves by denying our true feelings. 

REAL LIFE

As humans we are constantly growing and evolving.  In fact, when we aren't doing these things we feel awful.  So our Desired Feelings & Values change regularly.  Which means you need to be checking in consistently on your list.  I like to review mine at least once per quarter, and I am checking in daily with my intuition to make sure they still feel right.  When they don't, that is a sign they need review.

DOES THIS MEAN WE ABANDON GOALS/DREAMS?

Absolutely not.  What this means is: we cannot be attached to outcomes… ever!  

Goals are very useful in helping us move forward, so long as we are adjusting our goals regularly and making sure the action we need to take to get there in the present moment aligns with our current values & desired feelings now.  When they do not, we need to shift course, knowing that what is important is not the outcome, but embodying our key values & desired feelings now.

All goals should be made to support what you value most in the present moment.

Goals are excellent for working out what you could do to bring about your dream/big vision. However, you will miss out on living out your true dreams when you commit yourself to how you arrive.

WRAP UP

It's not arriving at the destination that will leave you feeling fulfilled.  It is how you felt along the journey. We live in alignment through taking action in the present moment that best embodies our current desired feelings & values and continuing to live in alignment with these as they change.

This is the path to fulfilment!
